video of Thing One and Thing Two March 31, 2008

This one is a few weeks old. It’s Thing One’s version of a NASCAR race. I think it’s a pretty good indication of what a 4 y/o comprehends out of all the stuff they see on TV.
Yes, my basement pretty much always looks like that. It’s mostly their mess, but you can see my scrapbooking setup in the corner. The masking tape football field has been their since their birthday party in November but is finally gone now.

I set out yesterday to try to repeat week 5, day 3, which is 20 minutes of running. I walked towards our local park where a .5 mile trail has recently been paved. I didn’t make it with 20 minutes straight of running, what I actually did was more like a repeat of week 5, day 2 which is two 8 minute runs with a 5 minute walk break. I didn’t take the whole 5 minute break and I did cover some hills, so I’m happy.
I’ll try one more time for that 20 minute run and then move on to week 6 no matter how it goes.

Jim Hill reports that Disney is selling the spotlights from Pleasure Island
My apartment building at Vista Way, home of almost all Disney College Programmers, at least at that time, was in the back of the complex. Our third floor apartment was on the back side, over looking I-4 and Pleasure Island. I saw those searchlights every night from my windows and if I was home before midnight, saw the PI fireworks that went off since every night was “new year’s eve”.
I feel like we definitely need to visit PI for the Comedy Warehouse and the Adventurer’s Club on our next trip. It may be the last time we can see them.
some ADR’s made March 29, 2008

Called Disney this morning to make ADR’s for September
We have a split stay between Villas at Wilderness Lodge and Beach Club Villas. The CM would only allow me to make ADR’s for the WVL portion of our trip and told me to call back at 180 days from the BCV check-in for the rest.
In the past, I’ve been allowed to make all my ADR’s at 180+10 even over a split stay since the reservations are linked. I guess I could call DVC Member Services, but I’m not really going for any of the “tough to get” restaurants.
I booked Liberty Tree Tavern for dinner on arrival day, Plaza Restaurant for dinner on MNSSHP day, Whispering Canyon Cafe for breakfast after MNSSHP, and CapNJacks at Downtown Disney for a late lunch that same day, about 5 hours before the Everest 5K.
Only 6 months to go. I’m SO gonna need a vacation before that, but all I have to look forward to is a 4 night stay in Pigeon Forge with my parents that includes suffering through a time-share presentation since my DAD thought that would be a good way to get a cheap trip… GRRRRR… I can understand them doing that when I was 7 and they were broke, but it seems a bit ridiculous now.

Had an awful run today. My plan was to do week 5, day 2 at the slightly faster pace. That’s two 8 minute runs with a 3 minute walk break between.
First, my iPod wouldn’t work. I use it a lot on the transmitter/charger in the car and lately, it’s just not powering off even when it is off the charger. I need to reboot and reload everything and see if I can fix it. So, no music to distract me, only the TV’s with closed caption.
I did 7 minutes of the first run before I accidentally hit the stop button and powered off the treadmill. I just went on to the walk break, then just could not get running again. My shins hurt. I walked for a while, then tried to run at my usual, slower pace again and that hurt too.
So, the treadmill moved for 30 minutes and 2 miles, but I was not happy about how any of it went.

I’m repeating week 5 in an effort to go a bit faster. Today was repeat of day 1, three 5 minute runs with 3 minute walk breaks in between. I ran at 5.3 instead of 5.0 and definitely found it challenging at the faster pace.
I’m ready for the weather to get a little nicer and do some running outdoors instead of on the hampster wheel of the treadmill. After week 7, the C25K program is pretty much “run for X minutes” with gradual increases, so I don’t see as much benefit to watching my pace and timing as I have in the early weeks.

I ran for TWENTY MINUTES STRAIGHT WITHOUT STOPPING!
I really can’t believe it. Less than two months ago, I started with running for a minute at a time. I’m not saying I was fast and I’m not saying it was easy, but my feet propelled my body forward for at 5 miles per hour for twenty whole minutes.
My stubbornness does come in handy every once in a while.

I’m slowing digging out from under the post-sale mess
Friday night our parents of multiples club took over the local Bounce U. We’ve been twice before for birthday parties, so Thing One and Thing Two were very excited to go. It was 9 PM before we got home, showered two sweaty boys, and tossed them in bed.
Saturday we took my car in so the dealer could investigate the check engine light. $700 later, I have a new sensor and new brakes. I cleaned up my office, filed lots of papers, and started packing up sale supplies that don’t need to go to our multiples club sale.
DH took the boys out to build the kid’s project at Lowe’s and buy shinguards for soccer since practice starts Tuesday. They both wore the shinguards and socks for the rest of the day. Thing One wondered if the Easter Bunny would think his shinguards looked cool, so our Easter Bunny note included the fact that the EB had actually tried on the shinguards and hopped around in them.
Suprisingly, Thing One and Thing Two didn’t beg for or eat much of the candy that the EB left. I guess they were overloaded from two school parties and the huge gift bags that MIL sent. Our EB also left a Disney DVD each (Aristocats & 101 Dalmations) and some sidewalk chalk + accessories.
DH was upset that we didn’t go to church. We never go to church, but he’s upset we didn’t even manage to be Chriseasters this year. I find it odd that I’m the one who was at church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night + bible school and camp growing up and now have no interest in going. He did not attend regularly until high school and even then just went to church services and now he wants to go.
Instead, we spent yesterday cleaning and I started working on taxes. I’d like to file in the next week or so and then move on down my to-do list.
FIL reports all but two of our cabinets are built. He still has to build drawers and has not yet ordered hardware. We need to get cracking on our end of things – chosing tile, countertops, lighting and ordering the appliances we’ve already chosen. Our built-in microwave died about 5 minutes after DH changed the time to “spring forward” and now we have a teeny little one on loan from my parents sitting on 2×4’s in the space where the built-in one went. We’re talking very, very nicely to our dishwasher which has been recalled despite its advanced age. I really need it to hold out for another 8-12 weeks until the new one is installed.

Today was 2 eight minute runs, completed at 5.0 MPH with a five minute walk break between at 3.8.
Day 3 is 20 minutes straight of running. ACK!
I think I’ll repeat this week, working on upping my speed. The Make-A-Wish 5K is in June and I’d like to give it a try.

Today was 3 five-minute runs with three-minute walk breaks between them. I was able to do it with no problem! I still haven’t picked up my pace any, so I was walking at 3.8 and running at 5.0. The next day is 2 eight-minute runs and the last day for week 5 is 20 minutes straight of running.
I can’t decide if I should try to repeat this week, gradually increasing my pace, or wait until I complete the whole 9 week plan and get up to running 3 miles before I work on upping my speed. Any thoughts from the “real” runners out there?
