Delta flights April 30, 2008

I’m going to have to live with the flight from here to Orlando the way it is. That’s probably for the best. We’ll leave a bit later but hopefully everyone will be better rested and able to enjoy the evening once we arrive.
I got the return flight changed at no charge. We leave fairly close to the original departure time, but connect in Cincinnati and get home about 2 hours later. At least we can still enjoy most of that day as planned instead of losing it all to travel.

It appears Delta has changed our flights to Orlando this fall. What are the odds they will change again? We’re losing about 8 hours of vacation time since we leave home later and leave there earlier.
They could have at least emailed to notify me.

It’s cold here today, so I tried the “5K” option on the treadmill for the first time. I don’t know why I haven’t tried it before, I usually use the “quick start” and then get frustrated when it shuts off before I’m done.
Anyway, I ran my 30 minutes at 12 min/min. Adding in my warm up and cool down walking, I did the 5K in 40 minutes. I’ll finish the C25K this week, then work on running the full 5K distance.

I ran through my neighborhood today, but chose a path that zig-zagged around to avoid the major hills as I just wanted to finish the 28 minutes. I had to keep reminding myself to slow down so I’d be able to keep going at the end. I did keep going and maybe even went a minute or so extra.
Next week is three 30 minute runs. I still won’t be covering a 5K distance, so I’ll need to work up to that once I finish the C25K program.

Treadmill again, 5.0 mph, 28 minutes. I bumped the incline to .5%. I finished, but probably wouldn’t have outside. This is still not really fun and I seem to need the treadmill counting down to keep me going.
kitchen plans April 24, 2008

It looks like we’ll have a new kitchen by the end of summer. It’s only been a year since we started talking seriously and DH started drawing layouts.
After thinking about several options, the layout is not changing dramatically. The refrigerator is moving and the island is shifting a bit, but nothing earth shattering. We’re keeping a separate cooktop in the island and wall oven. Sink and dishwasher aren’t moving, so hopefully no major plumbing work.
FIL is just about done building cabinets and then will glaze & finish them. He told us last weekend that he was not going to let us pay for any part of them, including the hardware. We were expecting to at least pay for materials and are thrilled at their generousity. Since they’ve been helping both BIL’s with their new houses, I think they feel a bit guilty that they don’t do much for us.
The appliances are already ordered so we can take advantage of a small rebate. We’re keeping our fridge, but everything else will be new. We’re putting in microwave/wall oven/warming drawer combo instead of a double oven. Our microwave died last month so now we have a dorm-sized one sitting on 2×4’s resting on top of the existing wall oven.
I think we’ve settled on countertops. DH really wants granite and I’m almost convinced. We’re looking at one of the black colors which hopefully will be pretty stain resistant and low-maintainence, if there is such a thing when it comes to granite.
We need to decide on silgranite vs. stainless sink, lights for over the island and table, paint color (blue?), design for tile backsplash, and finalize how we’re going to fix the floor. Our hardwood is fairly new, and moving the island will leave some gaps. We’re thinking of redoing the whole “work space” between island and cabinets with cork tiles, we just need to decide exactly where the transition back to hardwood will be.
I’m stressed. DH and FIL will be doing a lot of the work. We’ll need some drywall work and I don’t want to deal with that. I just want it DONE and my new appliances in.
Milestone Moments: Un-babyproofing April 24, 2008

Yesterday: competed removal of all babyproofing. Thing One and Thing Two are “only” 4.5 years old! We’ve had the Totloc’s on the kitchen cabinets flipped to unlock for a few months and they’ll be coming off soon with the kitchen remodel. They can pull the plugs out of the electric sockets at will. I have left the gates up to block off our dining room even through they are capable of opening them, but yesterday we took the gates down since moving kitchen things into the dining room is step 1 of prepping for the kitchen remodel.
This morning: first ever toy out of a cereal box. Thing One is so excited!

After my last two runs, I decided to go back indoors and try the 28 minute run on a nice, flat treadmill.
I set it at 5.0 mph, 0 incline, and put in my 28 minutes, no problems. At about 8 minutes to go, I realized that it felt pretty good and I was going to finish. I think I’ve been running a bit faster outside and definitely up some hills. I may try the next one outside, I just wanted to see if I could even make it through the 28 minutes.
I covered at about 2.5 miles in 32 minutes total
the bank came through for me! April 23, 2008

I do both personal and small business banking with Big Fancy Bank. This works well since they have branches in both my town and the two towns where we hold the sales. In January, they upgraded the business banking website with lots of features that I don’t need and took away my ability to download info to MS Money. I have to use MS Money since other software I use for the sale only prints computer checks with it, not with Quicken. There are FIVE different file formats that I could make work, and Republic won’t offer any of them on the business online banking site.
They do, however, offer them on the personal online banking site, which I also use. It has taken a week, but I have finally received a setup that is even better than what I was hoping for! They are running my business acccount through the personal site and I just set up MS Money to go retrieve info automatically so I don’t have to log in and download reports anymore!
It’s so nice when things like this go well!

I finally got in to see the doctor today and it was completely drama-free. Apparently, the trick is to come on a day when he’s the only doc in the office instead of on a day that all four of them are there.
I was in and out in a little under an hour. My pupils may be back to regular size by bedtime tonight. No problems, no new tears or weak places, f/u in 2 years. Someone remind me in 2 years to get an appointment on a day that he’s the only doc in the office!
