C25K maybe this week will be better

I finished week 7 with no real problems. I run for time and got all three 25 minute runs done. Week 8 has had 2 false starts. Thursday I just couldn’t keep going after 23 minutes and I stopped today around 19 minutes.

Today we took the boys and their tricycles up to the local park. It has a paved loop that is supposed to be .5 miles. We planned to let them ride or play soccer in the middle of the loop while both DH and I ran. Of course, he took off ahead of me and the boys were behind me whining for me to slow down. I think I went too fast at the beginning and didn’t walk to warm up since he doesn’t. He stopped after 15 minutes since it started raining and the whiny children needed attention. I finished 3 laps and just couldn’t keep going.

OTOH, Thing One did get off the trike and run a whole lap. I’m pretty sure he was faster than me too.

I may try again tomorrow since my free time Tuesday will be eaten up by my third attempt to see the opthamologist this month.

earthquake?

The thought did cross my mind, right after I asked DH, “what was that?”

earthquake!

C25K, week 8 that turned into week 7

Today’s goal was 28 minutes of running. I did maybe 23?

I took off in a different direction from the house, started with a downhill run and gradually went back uphill. I was feeling pretty good about how it was going, but totally ran out of steam. Nothing was wrong, no aches or pains, but I just couldn’t keep going. Mental, mostly, I guess. I took my watch off and was listening to a generic “workout” podcast, so I had no idea if I had 2 minutes left or 10 minutes left and just stopped.

I’ll try it again on Sunday.

It cracks me up that I’m disappointed to have “only” run 23 minutes without stopping.

C25K week 7, day 3

Since my morning was wasted by not seeing the eye doctor and not having enough time to do anything else, I ran today while Thing One and Thing Two were at soccer practice. There is a complex, paved path through our neighborhood that goes over by the soccer fields, so I did an out & back route. I carried my cell phone and left my number with another mom that I’ve known since we moved here, you know, just in case the world came to an end during the 25 minutes I was gone.

The path had several hills. I did my 25 minutes and have no clue what sort of distance I covered.

more medical runaround

Last time I saw the retinal specialist, yes, the one that required an act of Congress to get an appointment with because God forbid anyone waste his time that didn’t really, really, really need to be seen by a retinal specialist, history of retinal tears in both eyes be damned, yes, that one, he scheduled me for a follow up 18 months out. So, for 18 months I’ve been sitting on an appointment at 9:20 AM last Tuesday.

Last Monday, the office called to cancel my appointment. They offered me 9:10 and 10:30 today. Admittedly, I don’t have a lot of availablity. Thing One and Thing Two are in preschool Monday-Thursday from 9 AM to Noon and the office is about 20 minutes from preschool. I said I would be late for the appt if I took the 9:10 and was told to take the 10:30 but come as soon as I could and they’d get me in.

I got there at 9:25, repeated the above to the receptionist who denied that anyone could possibly have told me that. At 10:10 they finally admitted there was no way I’d be done by 11:40 and rescheduled me for NEXT Tuesday at 9:20.

I’m tempted to change it to a PM appointment and just take the kids with me. I’m at least 50 years younger than anyone else in the waiting room, two wild 4 y/o’s running around might get me in pretty quick! In the meantime, I’m just pissed that I pretty much wasted my entire morning and the gas to schlep over there and back.

Oh, and the receptionist had the gall to say that they are the only retinal specialists in this half of the state and they totally take self-referrals. I call bullshit on that, they made me jump through all sort of hoops to get in there.

C25K week 7, day 2

I’m officially one of those crazy people who runs outside in the cold and rain. I didn’t exactly set out to do that but I also didn’t turn around and come home when it started raining.

Completed 25 minutes of running, somewhere between 2.25 and 2.5 miles.

what comes next, I guess

C25K week 7, day 1

25 minutes, 2.5 miles. Repeat for day 2 and day 3.

C25K week 6, day 3

25 minutes straight of running today. I might have stopped 60-90 seconds early, but that’s because I decided to head towards home, which is uphill…

I’ve caught up to DH, training day-wise, but he’s following the plan for distance and purposely taking more hills now while I’m still just trying to keep moving for the allotted time.

He wants to try a cross-country 5K next month, but I think I want to wait for the Make-A-Wish Foundation 5K in July. There are two other local 5K’s we can try in August and the the Expedition Everest race in September.

C25K week 6, day 2

It was a beautiful day outside. The plan was two 10 minute runs with a 3 minute walk break. I ran a few minutes towards the park but stopped when I saw a new mom of twins. We’ve emailed and I’ve seen the “It’s a boy/It’s a girl” signs at their house, so I had to stop.

I started all the way back over with the run and managed to finish it. I am no longer happy with my New Balance shoes. My Asics feel a lot better. The NB make my left foot go numb no matter how loose I tie them. I’m going to fiddle with them a bit more, but they may become just everyday shoes if I can’t fix it.

The next run is 25 minutes/2.25 miles and next week is three runs of 25 minutes/2.5 miles. Eeeek!
