I finished my second 5K race. I ran alone. DH watched the kids, although we realized too late that he could have pushed them in the stroller. They both ran in The Fastest Kid in Town race and were so cute!

I finished 2538 of 3029 runners. I was 159 of 224 women aged 30-34. My chip time was 37:49, so I really didn’t run that much faster than the last 5K. The winning man finished in 14:34 and the winning women were a set of identical twins that finished in 17:18 & 17:19.

It was a totally different experience that my last race, the one that had about 75 runners. The same time brought me in 6th from the end there.

There were no corrals for starting, which was a shame. I was passing lots of walkers who started in front of me, but faster runners were zooming past me for the first mile.

I did not run with my iPod, although I wish I had. Everyone else did and I think it might have helped me if I’d set up a good playlist.

I ran the first 2 miles without a walk break, but then took 3 or 4 more short walk breaks to get through the last mile. The course was relatively flat.

I set my watch to autolap every mile. My splits were:

11:44 mile 1
11:27 mile 2
12:02 mile 3

and that’s honestly about the best I can do. Hopefully if I keep increasing distance I can also increase my time. Mile 2 included a water stop and since I was so far back, I was running over a lot of smashed cups. Still better than the other race where they handed out BOTTLES of water at the stop.

The main annoyance this race was several kids that jumped into the course as we ran past their neighborhoods. They had a game of zooming through the crowd, stopping to fiddle with a shoe, then zooming past again, shouting about how fast they were the whole way. We ran past several downtown bars, but those folks were mostly encouraging.

I didn’t see DH & my boys until right at the end, although they tried to watch the start and to see me near the mid-way point. The course was back & forth through the downtown streets and they were moving E-W as we were running N-S.

Only 7 weeks until the Expedition Everest Challenge at Disney. I have a lot going on in those 7 weeks and just hope to keep up my current level of training. I won’t be making any big improvements, but I’m confident I’ll be able to make the 16 min/mile pace.
